Explanation / Answer

1. Search the library catalog. The catalog is available 24/7. You can search by title, author, keyword, or series. If we have the book you are looking for email one of the librarians to check it out to you and place it in your cubby or you can collect it at the library.

2. MackinVia is an eBook platform whereby teachers can assign books and tasks to students. Books are read online via the MackinVia app which is installed on all iPads.

3.  Newsela has a range of articles on current events. Teachers can make their own accounts. Each article is available in a number of different lexile levels so the same article can be given to students with different reading levels.

4. Either visit Image Quest, or go to our "find an image" page.

5. Each class from K-4 is allocated one 20 minute slot per week at the beginning of the year. Grades 5-6 have 40 minutes. In addition teachers may request to book an information literacy period with the librarian either in the classroom or in the library for the whole class or for a section of the class at a time. In that time things such as research skills, referencing, information literacy can be taught. Check the timetable for availability.

6. The library is generally in use for classes from 8.30am to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday. There are some slots available for library catch-up and parent / teacher meetings when the library is not occupied. In addition one morning a week the library is open for booking for school events.  Check the calendar and email the librarian to make a booking. You can either book the main library or the library classroom.

7. We have a large selection of multiple copies of books at different levels. They are located in the sliding cupboards at the back of the main library. Generally teachers make an appointment to select books either individually or with their students. It is recommended that students sign the books out under their own name and do not swap books amongst each other.

8. We have over 600 professional books for teachers and also some books that are suitable to suggest for parents to read on parenting, discipline, children's social issues etc. These can all be found in the sliding cupboard at the back of the library. Professional books have the call number TR. A full list can be found here.

9. The number of books the students take out depends on their age, their needs and their responsibility levels. In principal they may borrow one book by grade level PLUS a book in Chinese or their home language. Students in the bilingual program take out 2 books in the language of that week and one book in the other language (i.e. if it is an English week they borrow 2 English books and 1 Chinese book). Students are NOT limited to borrowing and returning during library period. They can exchange books every day before and after school and during recess / lunch time. Students in nursery and PK may borrow books to keep in the classroom.

10. Parents may join the library. There is a small form to fill in and they will need to show their CIS ID. In principle they can borrow 3 books each, however they can request additional books as necessary.
